Understanding the different types of yoga

People from west have accepted yoga for its curative and health benefits that one can derive by practicing yoga. The different types of yoga also catalysed the acceptance of yoga for its sheer enthusiasm.

Variety is the order of the day. Anything, which is solitary in nature, is very difficult to propagate or spread. Sometimes when there is only one entity such as an idea, or one language, or one matter – it is hard for spreading that outside of those who abide by it, agree with it, or simply want it to continue existing.

But when there are multiple ideas and concepts, the chances of it spreading increases manifold; there are just more people out there who will be able to access it, talk about it, and indeed spreading it and making a part of their lives.

What is the relation of variety with Yoga? Well, there are many different types of yoga; and the reason for this, as we initially discussed, is that yoga isn’t a religion. Yoga, not being a religion, is an approach towards being active in your life every day.

Yoga being very agile and flexible (no pun intended!), it carries or crosses well across known boundaries such as cultural, country, and religious boundaries. In the last one century, yoga has taken the western world by storm, the reason being the diversity and different facets and types that are associated with yoga.

It is still spreading fast and many of the corporates have started reimbursing the cost of yoga classes enrolled by their employees. And companies, as part of their motivating tools, are practicing this concept.

It is well known fact that any diverse activity will have confusion initially and yoga is no exception. Many people who have been exposed to one kind of yoga might accidentally think that they have seen it all.

This is will be a dangerous situation when one has been exposed to a kind of yoga that – for whatever reason – they did not like, or perhaps, weren’t quite mentally prepared for (just as how some people might quit a fitness program in the middle if they aren’t in the right frame of mind to see it through).

So, whatever the experience that you have had - be it you have seen it on television, read about it in a newspaper, or casually heard from a friend or colleague while talking - then please be aware that your knowledge level is only at a tertiary level as the possibility of your exposure to the profound nature of yoga is remote.

It will be blessing is disguise, as the following session will take you to a newer level of knowledge and will be useful.

Let us look into each one of then in detail.
